Registration for 2020 Summer Downbeach Surf Camp Now Open

The Downbeach Surf Camp is geared to young surfers of all abilities, with emphasis on paddling, wave selection, popping up, turns and more. The Ventnor Recreation Department offers six, one-week sessions for ages 7 and up.

Camp is held on Richards Avenue Beach, Monday - Thursday with Friday reserved for makeup sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Week 5 - August 3-6

Tennis and Pickleball Courts Opening June 8

Ventnor tennis and pickleball courts located between the beach block and Atlantic Ave. between Suffolk and Somerset Avenues will open on Monday June 8, at 8 a.m. There will be early registration sales for pickleball passes on Friday June 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at the courts. Please have checks or exact change for purchases. Please adhere to all safety and protective measures for court use. Always practice social distancing.

Adults: season $50, weekly $15, daily $5
Kids 12 and under: season $35, weekly $10, day $5

Ventnor Mile Run Canceled for 2020

The Annual Ventnor Mile Run has been cancelled for this year. Originally, the run had been postponed from its regularly scheduled date near Independence Day to Labor Day weekend, but has now officially been canceled. We hope to see you in 2021!

The issue of COVID-19 has complicated the ability of the association to hold on person registration dates for the upcoming season. We are hereby gathering a database of players, coaches and volunteers electronically. Our plan for 2021 is to have a safe and successful season by following all required medical guidelines using the standards for the CDC. For this to happen, all players and volunteers must complete and return the electronic form. It can be returned via email or can be printed and dropped off, either at Ventnor City Hall or to the Ventnor Recreations Department. Players and volunteers will be contacted when authorized by the league and the City of Ventnor to begin group practices and games. It will be at that time that all registration fees will be required.

We currently need to assess our players numbers and gauge the interest of our residents to allow us to plan what division levels and the number of teams we will be forming for 2021. Persons that do not return forms for players will hinder the ability of the association to establish teams and plan for the upcoming season. Players will be granted slots on teams on a first come, first serve basis as rosters fill up. Please return the form ASAP. Players that register late may not be able to be added to rosters.

It is the hope of the association to provide a quality experience for your children in a safe and responsible manner, but for this to happen we need you to respond.

Community Yard Sale Scheduled for June 12 and 13, 2021

Ventnor will host a Community Yard Sale over the weekend of June 12 and 13, 2021. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

There is no cost to participate, but residents can register to have their names put on a published map ahead of the event. Deadline to register is Saturday, June 1, 2021.

49th Annual Ventnor Mile Coming July 2

Save the date for the 49th Annual Ventnor Mile and Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 2, 2021!

Race will be held rain or shine at Newport Avenue and the Boardwalk.

1 Mile Run will be a point to point event all on the Boardwalk. Event will begin at 7:00pm at the Swarthmore Ave and Boardwalk. Finish line will be near Somerset and Boardwalk. (Start will depending on the wind direction on race day then we may change the direction of the run.)

The Ventnor Pirate Football Speed and Agility Clinic will take place Saturday, June 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The FREE clinic is for children currently in grades K-7 from Ventnor, Margate, Longport and Atlantic City. The Holy Spirit High School Spartan State Championship Team is hosting.

Indoor Pickleball Begins November 2

Join us Wednesday nights from November 2 through December 21st, 2022, at the VECC for indoor pickleball open play. Registration via Court Reserve App is required. Space is limited per session. Cost is $3 per person.

Youth Soccer Clinic Begins January 23

Free Youth Soccer Clinics are being offered on Mondays beginning January 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. for Grades K-2 and Thursdays beginning January 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. for Grades 2-4 at VECC. No pre-registration required. Just show up to participate!

City of Ventnor Launches RecDesk

The City of Ventnor, Recreation Department and Special Events, is excited to launch RecDesk! This state-of-the-art software will allow our community to learn about programs as they become available, register from their own phone or computer, and securely submit payments for programs and facility rentals.

You’ll also be able to manage the schedules of your household members all from one web site! We’ll go live with RecDesk on March 1, 2023. When RecDesk is unveiled, you will be able to create your member profile or your family member profile and start registering.

Because we need to utilize this system for creating rosters and attendance lists, organizing teams, Vendor information, and other important safety information and forms, we cannot accept just the paper registration forms anymore.

Ventnor Recreation Seeking Surf Camp Surf Coaches

The City of Ventnor is looking for experienced surfers that are 16 years of age or older to teach/coach children that will be participating in our summer surf camp.

The camp runs for approx. 5 weeks beginning July 8 until August 8, 2024, Monday through Thursday and using Friday each week as a make-up day (if cancelled any day during the week due to weather or ocean conditions).

Start time is 8:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Wages are determined by the City of Ventnor.

New Recreation Facilities Rental Agreement

A new Recreation Facilities Rental Agreement will be going into effect for the 2024 summer season in Ventnor.

This agreement is for anyone that would like to instruct/hold classes for yoga, pilates, barre, Zumba, etc., as well as coach or provide group/personal training sessions on Ventnor property and facilities. The agreement form provides information on the parameters Ventnor expects. The form, once returned, will be reviewed and pend approval. If approved, a permit will be issued from the Recreation Department.

Memorial Day Kickoff to Summer

Start your summer off right in Ventnor! We’ve got a great Memorial Day weekend planned for visitors and residents.

Stroll through opening day of the Ventnor City Farmers’ Market on Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Atlantic and Newport Avenues.

Then, join in the Official Beach Opening on Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at Beach Headquarters on Suffolk Avenue. Later that night, enjoy an exceptional night of music and fun during a Concert at Ski Beach featuring The Voice of Ventnor, Ricky Stevens, and The Inka Band, a Latin and Santana Cover Band.

Wake up Sunday and participate in the Annual Kenny Wayland Memorial Run/Walk.

On Monday, May 27, a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony will be held at City Hall by the flagpole at 9 a.m.

Ventnor City Board of Recreation Meeting Date Change to July 16

The Ventnor City Board of Recreation must change its July 2024 recreation board meeting to Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. rather than Tuesday, July 9.

The meeting will be held at the Ventnor City Recreation Office 311 North Surrey Ave., Ventnor, NJ 08406.

Basketball Courts on S. Somerset Avenue Closed

The basketball court on S Somerset Avenue is closed due to safety concerns. It will be reconstructed after the summer. Basketball courts are available at the VECC (Ventnor City Educational Complex-Lafayette Avenue).

Tennis and Pickleball Courts Closed July 26-27 for Funky Pickle Tournament

July 26^th and July 27^th ( with a rain date of July 28^th) the Ventnor Tennis and Pickleball Courts on Suffolk Avenue will be CLOSED to the public and members for play due to the Funky Pickle Event. CourtReserve will NOT allow reservations during this time. Any questions please contact the Recreation Dept at 609-823-7950.

Pickleball and Tennis Court Updates

Starting May 24, 2025, the tennis and pickleball courts will require reservations only on the weekends through June 21, 2025.

Beginning June 21, 2025, through Labor Day reservations will be required 7 days a week. Courts are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Court Reserve will open for pickleball membership purchases on Monday, May 19, 2025, and reservations for May 24th (opening day) will open on May 21st at 7 p.m.

Pay as you go will also open on May 19th and allow reservations May 21st for court rentals.

All payment will be done through Court Reserve. Cash will not be accepted for reservations, rentals, or drop ins.

Tennis and Pickleball Rules and Policies

Tennis and Pickleball reservations can only be made on Court Reserve
Cash transactions will NOT be accepted at the courts
Payment is accepted via CourtReserve using a credit/debit card
Pickleball Open Play sessions are from 8am-12:30pm
Tennis Reservations can be made from 8am-12:30pm
The pickleball and tennis courts are free from 1pm-4pm
All players must reserve a court from 4pm-8pm on CourtReserve
All players must check in with the Court Attendants before entering a court by giving their name and time slot
Please secure your bicycles/scooters on the bike racks!
Do NOT have bikes in the courtyard, on the courts leaning against the fence, or in the walkway
The court staff are not responsible for your belongings
Bathrooms are located on the opposite side of the Courts Building
Sneakers and shirts are required to play on the courts
Please treat everyone with respect and display good sportsmanship

Tennis Courts Closed for Funky Pickle Tournament July 24-26

The City of Ventnor is hosting the Funky Pickle: Ventnor Classic tournament. Due to the event, the tennis and pickleball courts are currently closed from 7/24-7/26 with 7/27 as the rain date. Please make other arrangement to play tennis or pickleball on these days. If there is no rain, we expect the courts to reopen 7/27 with a time TBD. Please check CourtReserve for updates.

Walk ups are welcome to register for the tournament that same day! The tennis courts are not affected.

Coaches Needed for Rec Basketball

The Ventnor Recreation Department is seeking coaches for its 3rd and 4th grade travel basketball teams for the 2025 and 2026 season. Tryouts for the teams are being held November 10th or November 12th from 5-6 p.m. at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex. Practices will be Monday and Wednesday with games Saturday afternoon starting in January.
